Integral Ashtanga With Guy Donahaye in GREECE

16.09.2023 @ 14:00 - 22.09.2023 @ 12:00

We are happy and excited to invite you to a yoga retreat in Greece with one of the most influential yoga teachers in the world – Guy Donahaye.

The Eight Limbs of Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is a spiritual path with eight interconnected practices. The starting point is asana practice, which cultivates good health, vitality, flexibility, strength and stability. Once we have established this foundation, we start to explore beneath the surface. Each of the eight practices can take us a little deeper.
Yoga teaches that there are five bodies – four subtle bodies exist beyond the physical. The first of those is the body of prana – the vital energy – which is also the vehicle for the mind. Prana also means breath, and breathing (pranayama) is the tool that is used to start our internal exploration. Beyond this are four more practices – Pratyahara (sense-introversion), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (meditation) and Samadhi (absorption), and in order to achieve these, there are two more practices which need to be considered – Yama and Niyama (moral/lifestyle practices).
Yoga is a journey, an exploration of the internal world – a journey from the concrete physical embodied existence to discover our subtle essence. In order to discover what is inside, what normally diverts our attention towards external things needs to be overcome – this is the purpose of practice.
In this retreat we will explore all eight limbs in theory and practice. We will introduce an intelligently designed practice that is a gentle, yet dynamic and specifically designed to bring the body and mind into the right condition for meditation.
This practice relaxes, balances and energizes the mind and body, and creates a foundation for pranayama (breath control) and the inward journey of the mind towards meditation through sense-introversion (pratyahara), single-pointed concentration (dharana), meditation, or merging of the mind in contemplation (dhyana) and final absorption (samadhi).
Morning practice will include asana, pranayama and meditation. In the afternoon we will explore yoga philosophy and theory with the opportunity for questions and discussion and more pranayama and meditation.
This retreat is open to all levels of practitioners – from beginners to advanced.
